Year of 2011 - from Jan. 1st to 18th

Fr. Charles Edward Dolan, CSS

There passed away, in the United States, on January 18, 2011, our confrere Fr.  Charles Edward Dolan. He was 83 years old and counting 52 years of Priestly life. He belonged to the Mary the Morning Star Province, in Thailand, where he served for over 40 years as missionary.

Fr. Dolan was born in Rochester, state of New Hampshire, in the United States, on October 10th, 1927. He was ordained Stigmatine Priest on May 31st, 1958.

He  died on the beginning of a long flight back to Thailand, departing from Boston. He was accompanied by John Marzilli, a Stigmatine layman from Waltham. After about 30 minutes the plane had departed from Chicago, its first stop, Fr. Dolan had a heart attack. He was promptly attended on board by a doctor, the crew and volunteers. The plane returned to Chicago airport, where EMTs and an ambulance were already waiting for him. After a first assistance on board, they took him to the Resurrection Hospital in Chicago. However, even though all these efforts, he did not survive.

Fr. Dolan died on the way to the land he loved, the distant Thailand. And doing what he enjoyed, that was travelling for missions. He was actually an outstanding and exemplar missionary.

May our Lord, through the intercession of the Holy Spouses Mary and Joseph, and of St. Gaspar Bertoni, grant him the eternal and peaceful repose, and the heavenly rewards for his good works in favor of the Church and the Congregation.
